New York has endless options for great restaurants, cafes, bars, and things to do. We want to share some of our favorites with you - we hope you enjoy the city as much as we do!
May is a great time to be in New York. Here are a few ideas and resources to enjoy spring in the city:
Live music is all around you! While venues like MSG and MetLife for sure will host some of the biggest artists, don’t forget there are over 100 live shows a night in NYC, literally. Here is a good link to get you started for shows in May.
Broadway shows - Be sure to check what is on and what’s upcoming on broadway. We recommend booking tickets through the official websites of the shows and not ticket aggregators (Ticketmaster, SeatGeek), when possible. If you can’t find tickets or prefer to try your luck, we recommend getting the TodayTix app (iOS, Android) on your phone to register for lotteries and rush tickets. There’s always a chance to snag a last minute cheap ticket on it!
Sports - Mid-May is a great time for sports at both NBA (Knicks) and NHL (Rangers, Islanders) conference finals. Going to Madison Square Garden during the playoffs is an unforgettable experience! If you like baseball or just want to experience Yankee Stadium or Citi Field, the Yankees and the Mets are also in season during this time. Big sporting events are in high demand and can get expensive quickly, so when possible plan ahead and buy tickets directly from the official seller (for example, knicks.com)
Comedy - The Comedy Cellar and NY Comedy Club are two of the most iconic venues and we love going there. For the Comedy Cellar, reservations usually open on Wednesdays for the following week and fill up quickly so be ready to book your spot as soon as they become available. If you don't have a reservation, arrive at the club about an hour before the show you want to see and join the standby line. Not everyone with a reservation shows up, so there's a chance you'll get in.
